Special Issue: Special Issue on “Based Cooperative Communications and Mechanisms for Wireless Sensor Networks”

Theme and Scope

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are composed of sensor nodes and sinks. Sensor nodes have the capability of self-healing and self-organizing. They are decentralized and distributed in nature where communication takes place via multi-hop intermediate nodes. The main objective of a sensor node is to collect information from its surrounding environment and transmit it to the sink. WSNs have many applications and are used in scenarios such as detecting climate change, monitoring environments and habitats, and various other surveillance and military applications. Mostly sensor nodes are used in such areas where wired networks are impossible to be deployed. WSNs are deployed in physical harsh and hostile environments where nodes are always exposed to physical security risks damage.

In this special issue, we concentrate mainly on cooperative communication and advanced related mechanisms for wireless sensor network. We are interested in novel ideas, advanced techniques, comparative analysis of different methodologies, detailed surveys, and technical reviews on all aspects of cooperative communications and mechanisms in wireless sensor networks. This special issue covers industrial applications and academic research contributions.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
 Green wireless sensor networks architectures and communication protocols
 Data gathering, fusion, and dissemination in WSNs
 Multimedia over sensor networks
 Smart cities and smart environment
 Cooperative communication
 Relaying techniques

Currently I am an associate Professor at Xi’an Unviersity of Technology. Houbing Song received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, in August 2012.
In August 2017, he joined the Department of Electrical, Computer, Software, and Systems Engineering, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, FL, where he is currently an Assistant Professor and the Director of the Security and Optimization for Networked Globe Laboratory (SONG Lab, www.SONGLab.us). He served on the faculty of West Virginia University from August 2012 to August 2017. In 2007 he was an Engineering Research Associate with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. He serves as an Associate Technical Editor for IEEE Communications Magazine. He is the editor of four books, including Smart Cities: Foundations, Principles and Applications, Hoboken, NJ: Wiley, 2017, Security and Privacy in Cyber-Physical Systems: Foundations, Principles and Applications, Chichester, UK: Wiley-IEEE Press, 2017, Cyber-Physical Systems: Foundations, Principles and Applications, Boston, MA: Academic Press, 2016, and Industrial Internet of Things: Cybermanufacturing Systems, Cham, Switzerland: Springer, 2016. He is the author of more than 100 articles. His research interests include cyber-physical systems, internet of things, cloud computing, big data analytics, connected vehicle, wireless communications and networking, and optical communications and networking.
Dr. Song is a senior member of both IEEE and ACM. Dr. Song was the very first recipient of the Golden Bear Scholar Award, the highest faculty research award at West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech), in 2016.

Dr. Li Wei

Wei Li received his Ph.D. degree from the School of Information Technologies at the University of Sydney in 2012. He is currently a research associate in the Centre for Distributed and High Performance Computing in University of Sydney. His research interests include Internet of Things, wireless sensor network, task scheduling, resource management, nature-inspired algorithms, and optimization; Distributed and High Performance Computing, High performance computing; Computer Architecture.
